Last summer, I took on a full rewrite of my resume.
I had been bothered by the conflict between having signficant experience and that most folks don't read past the first page. People don't spend more than a minute scanning a resume to see what might be interesting.
How did I get down to a single page?
- Put a short summary of my current work at the top to let people know what I'm doing right now
- Separated my biggest accomplishments separate from my list of jobs
- Reduced my experience to include my last 10 years
- Added short summaries to my most popular open source projects
- Borrowed a format from some other resume templates to put supporting information in the left column.
